A journey through landscapes and evocative scenarios, "283 jours fantômes de consolation immobile" (283 ghost days of immobile consolation) explores relatively uncharted artistic territory , combining music, photography and poetry, resulting in a startling departure from current norms.
Begining as a colaboration between Nicolas and Guillaume of Parisian ambient duo Cravan, dancers Hélène Barrier and Viola Ferby and photographer-poet Regis Nuuk, the work was born as a choreographed multi-media performance presented by La Société de Curiosités in Paris.
After several live perormances Cravan and Nuuk decided that the music generated was powerful enough to stand alone and so began the conception and recording of this astonishing work. No longer simply the end point of a underground artistic residency, it became an album, coupling the visual and lyrical/poetic elements by Nuuk and the soundscapes provided by Cravan. Is it music arranged to poetry? Do pictures direct the sound? Does the music evoke the words? Only the beholder can decide.
It was crucial to capture the energy and spirit of the performances, so instrumentation and vocals were recorded live in the studio. True to form and like their namesake, Arthur Cravan, the sound is indeed part boxer, part poet. Along a guidline of two guitars and keyboards, the 12 movements traverse through variations and layers and superimposed effects. Opening up with the first movement which appears as almost a "ship to shore call" or a tentative dialogue between two distant beings. Then building and intensifying movement by movement reaching a rousing, discordant cabaret by Movement Five, only to fall away and begin anew in movement six on a more melodic trajectory sweeping and striding towards the final reconciliation in movements 11 and 12. The rich, laden voice of Regis Nuuk, emerging from the shadows sprinkling sometimes a mystic touch, sometimes a touch of menace and then returning to the shadows from where he came.
The visual identity of the album is equally faithful to the aesthetics of the original creation. The set of 12 photos / poems is composed of monochrome silver plates in 6X7 format and numbered texts. The verse evoking different stages in a loving mourning. The photos documenting familiar places along the way.Nostalgic for a past you never knew, suspended in a present you can't tear yourself away from and staring at a future you never dreamed existed. Nuuk guiding you through Cravan, and Cravan illumintating the shadows left by Nuuk. Each movement/ image/verse stands alone or as a vital component of the bigger picture that is "283 jours fantômes de consolation immobile". It's one of those experiences that leave you different, altered, changed.

The limited edition of 283 numbered gatefold copies of the double album (one disc instrumental and one set to poetry) features a booklet presenting 12 photographs paired with 12 poems by Nuuk, each with corresponding track on the album.
